About The Blue Duck
The owner and executive chef, Paul Escamilla, has an extensive background and education in the restaurant and customer service industry. He has managed and/or co-owned multiple restaurants in and out of town, but his ultimate dream has always been to own a close-to-home restaurant which he can continue to pass down through generations to come. The family man, raised and well-known in Livingston, truly implements the “little touches” with his heart and personality in every recipe.
When you first walk through the doors of the Blue Duck, you are sure to feel the exquisite, yet relaxing, atmosphere Chef Paul and his team have created and continue to provide. Following that, we guarantee you will appreciate your local and long-time favorites, or awaken and satisfy your taste buds with an exciting and new American dish Chef Paul assures you will not find anywhere else in Polk County.
For decades, our building at 410 Washington sat vacant after a law firm moved out. It was waiting for a visionary buyer who knew that Livingston would support a great restaurant and bar in downtown.
Built in 1935, the Mistrot Building was a thriving part of the Mistrot Brothers Dry Goods store chain, the largest dry goods retailer in Texas at the time. Meticulously renovated from reclaimed and regional, natural materials, the restored Mistrot evokes the charm of a by-gone era.
Most of our visitors see only the first and mezzanine levels, which are the Blue Duck service areas. The second story offers a perfect spot for a private party or group function, with carefully selected local artisan work creating a gallery style ambiance. A furnished loft sits atop the building, with a roof top deck overlooking the skyline of Livingston.
The Blue Duck in the Mistrot Building is a reminder of a simpler time when little touches were all that was needed. Today, the new Blue Duck owner and staff put a lot of time into those little touches that, we hope, make your dining experience in downtown Livingston simply amazing. The Blue Duck serves us with the fine dining from the big city and has created an incredible fusion with our small town environment.
